Towards relevant information to serve regional climate change adaptation

Nina Pirttioja
Finnish Environment Institute (Syke)

As climate change progresses, the importance of adaptation is increasingly recognized across society. A disconnect exists between research and practice, as research outputs often fail to meet regional priorities and needs of businesses in climate change adaptation (CCA) planning.

The overall objective is to tackle this disconnect and seek to improve interactions between research, regional decision-making and business in the co-development of relevant information. The work is structured around five tasks: (1) mapping research needs to support regional CCA planning, (2) conducting case studies of information provision in Finnish regions, (3) advancing an novel approach of co-developing adaptation-stories to provide future context to inform planning and raise awareness of adaptation, (4) explore options for a web service dedicated to providing information to aid adaptation planning in regions, and (5) develop a roadmap for improved interaction between research and decision-making.
