Photonic Biosensor Concepts for Wearable Health Sensing Applications

Iman Kafian-Attari
VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd.

According to the World Health Organization, one in six people in the world will be aged 60 years or over by 2030. Population ageing gives rise to the prevalence of noncommunicative diseases such as cardiovascular, metabolic and musculoskeletal disorders.

The growing rate of these diseases will impose a crippling socioeconomic challenge on our already overwhelmed healthcare systems.

We believe that healthy ageing will be the next frontier in health and well-being, demanding proactive, digitally enabled solutions that deliver both clinical impact and cost efficiency. Our goal is to build a world-class Finnish ecosystem – the first of its kind – dedicated to designing and testing the next generation of wearable biosensing solutions for longevity and healthy ageing, in collaboration with healthcare professionals and policy makers from its inception.
