The main objective is to accelerate the discovery of novel steels for hydrogen applications using high-throughput strategies and the development of the materials acceleration platform concept. It will accelerate the additive manufacturing of previously unattainable high-strength, tough steels.
The research seeks to enhance European industry competitiveness by reducing costs, improving efficiency, and minimising material waste, energy use, and emissions, aligning with the European Green Deal and the goal of a sustainable, low-carbon economy.
By applying high-throughput composition–process Co-design and experimental screening, the research will identify optimal chemical compositions and additive manufacturing process parameters for producing high-strength, tough steels. Advanced characterisation techniques will be used to analyse how composition and processing parameters affect microstructure and mechanical properties, providing valuable insights for innovative steel development.
