Life Cycle Assessment Method Development for Bio-based materials

Ville Mantela
Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke)

This postdoctoral research is driven by the need to develop and apply Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methods for a comprehensive evaluation of the production and use of bio‑based materials.

The study integrates environmental impact assessment with technological development, covering the entire value chain from primary raw material production to end‑of‑life treatment of products. A further motivation is the need to generate knowledge that supports decision‑making in both companies and the public sector for the development and implementation of sustainable solutions. The research aims to advance life cycle assessment by integrating complementary indicators, such as LULUCF and PEF/PEFCR.
