This research aims to identify how private and public financing should be strategically directed, and governance instruments accordingly designed, to drive transformation of vital production systems towards becoming more sustainable and resilient.
Under conditions of heightened geopolitical tensions, supply chain disruptions and shifting government expenditure priorities, there is a risk that decision-makers overlook the recognized need to consider biodiversity and the state of the environment in decisions on funding of business activities. By applying Systems Thinking and a mixed-methods approach, including policy coherence analysis and qualitative methods, this research project analyses interdependencies, feedback loops and perceived long-term impacts within vital production systems in Finland, with the objective to identify leverage points and pathways for transformation towards increased sustainability and resilience.
