Effects of land-use change on fish populations

Aatu Turunen
Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke)

The main goal is to evaluate the effects of human land use on fish populations and to create indicator-based tools to detect changes in these populations.

The research will provide knowledge for the development of possible conservation measures for fish populations heavily impacted by land use. Furthermore, the socioeconomic effects are estimated. The data used include catch data, land-use raster data, and water quality data, which are modeled using linear mixed-effect models and Bayesian regression models.

Progress

Great start for the Programme! The first 36 postdoctoral researchers have been recruited and started their work. Half of them relocated to Finland from abroad.
