What does the Finnish research, development and innovation ecosystem look like from a postdoc’s perspective? At Tulanet PostdocDay 2026, researchers explored it through expert insights, discussions and personal ecosystem maps.
Tulanet PostdocDay 2026 brought together more than 60 postdoctoral researchers from the Postdoctoral Programme for Research Institutes in Helsinki on 1 October.
The day focused on the Finnish RDI ecosystem and the opportunities it offers postdoctoral researchers. Topics included RDI policy and actors, local government, research-business collaboration, multisectoral cooperation, research infrastructures and funding.
From the wider ecosystem to personal connections
The day’s central activity was creating a personal RDI ecosystem map. The postdocs mapped their current contacts, potential collaborators, career directions and concrete next steps.
The exercise encouraged participants to look beyond their current projects and organisations. Table discussions helped them exchange ideas and discover connections across institutes, disciplines and sectors.
Expertise from across the RDI ecosystem
Warm thanks to the speakers who shared their expertise during the day: Johanna Buchert, Johanna Moisio, Kaisu Sahamies, Heikki Ailisto, Tim Holmström, Jaana Halonen, Jussi Enkovaara, Mari Riipinen and Johanna Kohl.
Programme Director Johanna Buchert highlighted that understanding the RDI ecosystem is not only about recognising its structures and organisations. For researchers, it is also about finding partners, identifying relevant resources and funding opportunities, considering different career paths and understanding where their expertise could create value and impact. Thank you to the speakers and postdocs for their contributions, active participation and lively discussions.
