What is Tulanet?

Our main objective is to foster collaboration among our members and with other actors in the scientific research field. We bring the collective voice of research institutions into the Finnish research policy discussion.

Tulanet consists of eleven member institutes, employing about 10,000 professionals across

These institutes conduct long-term research in their respective fields, working closely with national and international partners. In addition to research, they carry out expert and statutory tasks. Their solutions-oriented work contributes to society through collaboration with businesses and decision-makers.

Organisation

Tulanet is a contract-based consortium. Its operations are led by a management group composed of the director generals of the member institutes. Tulanet is chaired by the director general of one of the member institutions for one year at a time. The activities are coordinated by the executive director of Tulanet.

Practical cooperation takes place through networks of directors, researchers, and experts.

Our Approach

Tulanet strengthens the role of research institutes in Finnish research policy by:

• representing institutes in working groups and expert networks
• issuing statements and endorsements
• engaging with academia, business representatives, and policymakers

We promote efficient use of expertise and resources by:

• developing shared working methods and peer networks
• organising joint trainings and mentoring
• sharing laboratories and equipment

We advance interdisciplinary research and expert work by:

• connecting researchers across fields
• collaborating with organisations that apply research findings
• contributing to the development of open science practices
